Check <a title="search.twitter.com" href="http://search.twitter.com/" target="_blank">search.twitter.com</a> for searches about your company, brands, executives, industry or competitors. You&#8217;ll probably find something insightful, surprising, disturbing or amusing.</p>
<p><strong>Do blogs still matter?</strong><br />
Blogs are still extremely important components of the social-media ecosystem for several reasons. First, they have the audience &#8212; of Quantcast&#8217;s Top 100 sites, BlogSpot, WordPress and Blogger are all in the top 30, followed by blogs such as Huffington Post and TMZ. Also, bloggers are influential to targeted audiences both broad and niche. Finally, blogs can be useful for establishing direct communication between marketers and consumers, and they can contribute to establishing a larger share of voice in search-engine results.</p>
<p><strong>Has Twitter peaked? </strong><br />
Growth in traffic to Twitter.com may have slowed, and by some measures it has leveled off, but most Twitter access occurs elsewhere, especially through desktop and mobile applications such as TweetDeck and Seesmic. Twitter rarely releases hard numbers.</p>
<p><strong>How do you know if it&#8217;s growing?</strong><br />
Plenty of others fill the data void. Uptime monitoring company Pingdom reported that people posted over 1.2 billion tweets in January 2010, 16 times as many tweets a year earlier and twice as many as in August 2009. Twitter&#8217;s user base is also disproportionately vocal and influential, and the platform is so open that it will continue to attract strong interest from marketers.</p>

Facebook has over 100 million mobile users, and as it continues to gain market share around the globe, in time it should have more mobile users than web users. That&#8217;s true for digital-media consumption overall &#8212; so much of the growth is coming from mobile.</p>

There&#8217;s only one Twitter user who coins more words than Seth Godin, responds to about as many people as Comcast, and has appeared in more bad movies than Alec Baldwin: Shaquille O&#8217;Neal, aka <a title="twitter.com /therealshaq" href="http://twitter.com%20/therealshaq" target="_blank">@TheRealShaq</a> &#8212; the first and still greatest Twitter superuser.</p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s the first question I need to answer when developing a social-marketing strategy?</strong><br />
What are your goals? That sets the stage for everything else: what you&#8217;ll do, what vendors and partners you&#8217;ll work with, and how you&#8217;ll measure it.</p>
<p><strong>So wait, you&#8217;re saying social media is measurable?</strong><br />
Duh. The problem is there are too many ways to measure it. How are you using it? Are you trying to build relationships, raise awareness, improve perceptions, respond to customer-service issues, boost engagement, attract top talent, get people to an online or offline event &#8230; what&#8217;s your objective? Figure that out, then you can figure out how to measure it.</p>
<p><strong>Can technology measure sentiment?</strong><br />
A lot of the best tools are getting close. English is an idiomatic language, and people have a nasty habit of being sarcastic (except on Gawker). That means you may need to do some manual analysis, especially if you want to be totally accurate. There are lots of great technologies out there that are worth looking at. It depends why you&#8217;re doing it and how precise you need to be.</p>
<p><strong>Who should &#8220;own&#8221; social marketing in an organization?</strong><br />
From the marketer perspective, it needs a strong champion and steward in-house regardless of whether you have one or more agencies involved. Whoever it is needs to be able to marshal a lot of teams internally and externally: media planning and buying, PR, web development, creative, customer service and others. Assuming a digitally focused person or agency is leading the social marketing program, they should also be well looped in with the big marketing picture.</p>
<p><strong>How can I best amplify my social marketing?</strong><br />
You can do more than buying Facebook ads and following tons of people on Twitter. The single best thing you can do strategically is include social media as part of the fabric of your overall marketing and brand building, rather than as a detachable add-on.</p>
<p><strong>And what about tactically?</strong><br />
Integrate social marketing with your other marketing online (e-mail, display, your website) and offline (all the traditional media channels, plus in-store/point of sale).</p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s the best reason to set up a social-marketing program today, even if I&#8217;m not convinced I need one?</strong><br />
Any company or brand can benefit from having a direct connection with their target audiences, whether those are customers, prospects, business partners, local peers, analysts or others. Marketers feel the need the most when they&#8217;re in a crisis, but it&#8217;s like learning to swim &#8212; you&#8217;ll want to pick up the skill before you find yourself stranded in the Atlantic Ocean, or at your boss&#8217;s pool party. Most conversations about brands are positive, which should be especially motivating.</p>

<p>Since social media is, well, a social medium, it’s important that users understand the proper ways to behave online. No, just because you’re behind a computer monitor in your mom’s basement doesn’t mean all social etiquette goes out the window. It’s quite the opposite—following proper social media etiquette is a key to being successful online (and to making sure you don’t make a complete idiot out of yourself.)</p>
<p><strong>1. Give More than You Receive-</strong> If you want to receive attention from others online, you have to be willing to give it first. It’s the old “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” routine. You can’t bust onto a social media site with a sense of entitlement thinking you should be a top user immediately. You have to earn respect from others. How do you do this? By giving more than you receive.</p>
<p><strong>2. Don’t be a Keyboard Gangsta-</strong> Probably the worst thing about the Internet is the keyboard gangstas. You’ve surely run across at least one of these in your lifetime. They sit at their keyboard talking trash to everyone they encounter. They say things online that they would never have the nerve to say to a real person’s face. Don’t try to ruin everyone else’s online experience because you don’t have any friends in real life.</p>
<p><strong>3. Add Value to the Site-</strong> At the end of the day, the thing that will earn you great connections with others is if you add value to the community. This means not submitting content that nobody cares about and not constantly promoting your brand. Before you ever submit anything to a social media site, ask yourself “Does this article really add value to the community?” If not, reconsider submitting it.</p>
<p><strong>4. Don’t Sabotage Other’s Efforts-</strong> This is self-explanatory. Drop all of your e-beefs and hatred. Don’t try to bury others just for the sake of getting ahead. Making enemies on social media sites will get you nowhere fast, and you really do reap what you sow.</p>
<p><strong>5. Remember that Cheaters Never Win-</strong> Instead of trying to game the system, why don’t you focus on building a successful social media presence the right way. Sure, you might be able to get some amazing results by cheating, but eventually, you will get caught. And once everyone sees you for the cheater you are, you can’t un-ring that bell.</p>
<p><strong>6. Build Quality Relationships-</strong> People are more willing to help those who they really know. By building quality relationships with other users, you’ll always have someone in your corner to back you up. Remember, relationships require the participation of both parties; so, always be a good participant in your social media relationship.</p>
<p><strong>7. Stop Pushing the Envelope-</strong> One of the fastest ways to alienate people online is to constantly flood them with requests for helping you out. Whether you’re constantly shouting your content or always Tweeting asking people to comment on your blog, eventually, everyone will lose their patience with you. It’s like the boy who cried wolf. People will tune you out if you’re constantly pushing the envelope.</p>
<p><strong>8. Respect the Community-</strong> This might be the most important rule of social media etiquette. Show respect to the community. It’s not that hard to do. Just make sure you don’t step out of line, and always treat everyone the way you want to be treated. These are simple social skills you should already be following in real life; now, you just have to follow them online too.</p>
<p><strong>9. Listen to Others-</strong> Your first reaction whenever someone disagrees with you online is probably to tell them how wrong they are. Instead of constantly fighting back, take the time to listen to what they’re really saying. Listen to the people commenting on your blog or Tweeting at you. Understand where they’re coming from. You don’t know everything, and you can learn from others if you take the time to listen.</p>
<p><strong>10. Be Accountable for Your Actions-</strong> Because of the anonymity the Internet allows, there is little to no accountability online. People say and do whatever they please without facing any repercussions. Don’t be that guy. Instead, try to be honorable by taking responsibility your actions online. By being accountable, people will respect you, whether they agree with you or not.</p>
<p><strong>11. Be Nice-</strong> All of these points add up to one thing—just be nice. Is it really too much to ask for people to be kind to one another? Call me old-fashioned if you like, but there’s nothing wrong with being nice to others online.</p>

<h2><span style="color: #ff6600;">Hay diferentes razones por las que una pequeña empresa recibirá una afluencia de nuevos clientes. </span></h2>
<p>Mientras que, los nuevos clientes son excelentes, los clientes que ya han realizado una compra y regresan al local son ¡aún mejores!</p>
<p>Las redes sociales ofrecen una serie de oportunidades para convertir a sus nuevos clientes en clientes existentes o clientes que repitan su compra o se conviertan en “fans” de sus productos y servicios.</p>
<p><strong>Cómo pescar a nuevos clientes a través de las redes sociales:</strong></p>
<p>Lo primero que debería hacer, es redireccionar a los nuevos clientes a conocer la cuenta que tiene su empresa en las redes sociales. Esta es una buena manera de incentivar el uso de las redes sociales y conseguir más seguidores. Ofrecer a quienes acaban de hacer su compra un futuro descuento, pero vinculado de alguna manera a las redes sociales, suele ser una estrategia efectiva. Por ejemplo, una juguetería puede hacerle saber a sus clientes (en el local) que si hacen fans en Facebook podrán tener acceso a descuentos y promociones especiales. O bien puede decirles que siguiendo a la empresa desde Twitter recibirá mensajes especiales con ofertas exclusivas.</p>
<p>Esta práctica no es diferente a la de tomar el correo electrónico o la dirección postal de un cliente y enviarle información con ofertas personalizadas, la diferencia radica en la impulsión de la interacción en los medios de comunicación sociales y la rapidez de respuesta que se obtiene a través de este medio; es mucho más ágil leer un mensaje recibido a través de un tweet que recibirlo debajo de la puerta de su casa en formato papel (esto sin entrar en detalles sobre la reducción de costos). Esta es realmente una ventaja para los propietarios de pequeñas empresas, ya que activa la participación de los clientes en las redes sociales e incrementa las chances de captar su atención.</p>
<p><strong>Concentrarse en la construcción de una comunidad</strong></p>
<p>Una vez que haya usuarios que han accedido a seguirlo a usted o a su empresa en los medios de comunicación sociales, el truco para retener a esos clientes, es generarles el deseo de “volver”. Eso significa que se debe interactuar con nuevos contenidos, ofertas exclusivas, e información que de otra manera no podrían conseguir. La mejor manera de hacer crecer su comunidad es ofrecer siempre contenidos de calidad. Aunque eso significa que muchas veces hay que renunciar a los argumentos de venta.</p>
<p>Los clientes participan en las comunidades debido a la calidad de la información y porque le interesa estar informado de sus noticias sobre ventas, cupones de descuentos, ofertas en horarios determinados, nuevos productos o cambios en su negocio (por ejemplo, cambio de local, apertura de nuevas sucursales, actualización de menú, etc.). La entrega de calidad, consejos útiles e información a sus clientes, hará más probable que quieran hacer negocios con usted y lo ayuden a construir una verdadera comunidad en línea.</p>
<p>Los restaurantes podrían compartir recetas o consejos para poder recalentar correctamente “las sobras” o poder armar con eso un buen plato, mientras que los que ofrecen servicios como por ejemplo de plomería (fontaneros) podrían dar instrucciones para arreglar cosas sencillas. Los comerciantes podrían ofrecer comentarios sobre sus nuevos productos (o las formas de utilizarlos) y los médicos podrían ofrecer alertas sobre los avances de nuevas investigaciones médicas o cambios en las políticas sanitarias. La clave está en generar valor agregado y poder dar al suscriptor o fan, noticias de calidad. Sea creativo! ¿Qué tipo de información puede ser de interés para sus clientes? Esto es lo que lo ayudará a incrementar su comunidad y a su vez generar interés de retorno en sus clientes.</p>
<p><strong>Jugar su juego</strong></p>
<p>Los medios de comunicación sociales son lugares para promover sus ventas y sus eventos, pero también debe considerar que las redes sociales son los lugares ideales para ofrecer a sus seguidores ofertas exclusivas que, de otra manera, no se podrían obtener. Estas estrategias online lo ayudarán a mantener a sus fanáticos interesados por regresar a su negocio y lo ayudarán a construir una comunidad alrededor de su local, servicio, o marca.<br />
Es cierto que debe tratar bien a todos sus clientes, pero eso no significa que debe tratar a todos por igual. Los clientes que han dedicado tiempo para hacerse seguidor de su empresa o recibir ofertas o descuentos exclusivos de sus productos pueden ser muy buenos” recomendadores” y activar el “boca a boca”.</p>
<p>De esta forma, puede convertir a sus nuevos clientes en clientes frecuentes, y a su vez atraer a nuevos clientes a través del boca a boca de sus clientes fieles. <p>Todavía no terminamos de descubrir los beneficios y el modelo de negocio de Twitter, y entra con fuerza <a href="http://foursquare.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Foursquare</strong></a> (FQ) o “<strong>Cuatroesquinas</strong>” una nueva aplicación que combina el microblogging twittero, (un derivado del texting), con el GPS o la posibilidad de ser ubicado geográficamente, la movilidad de los teléfonos inteligentes (con navegación por Internet), y el componente viral de las redes sociales.</p>
<p>El concepto es sencillo: la aplicación busca agregar en pequeños textos a lo <strong>Twitter</strong> las cientos de opiniones y recomendaciones de usuarios que utilizan los servicios y productos de distintos establecimientos, desde un restaurante, café o agencia bancaria, hasta una universidad, para convertirse en una potente herramienta de recomendación sobre la base de la ubicación geográfica.</p>
<p>¿No quisiera entrar a un restaurante japonés por primera vez, y en lugar de escoger entre veinte combinaciones de sushi desconocidas en la carta, leer los &#8220;tips&#8221; de cinco amigos suyos que ya almorzaron allí? ¿O de repente saber qué ofertas hay en el restaurante de al lado? ¿Se imagina la utilidad de una herramienta así por decir, en centros comerciales?</p>
<p>Como un clásica aplicación de la web 2.0., <strong>Foursquare</strong> se apoya en las redes personales de cada usuario en <strong>Facebook</strong> o Twitter para difundirse viralmente. Así, al momento de registrarse, la aplicación le ofrece ubicar entre su lista de amigos a aquellos que también usan el servicio, y actualizar tanto su “Muro” en Facebook, como su cuenta en Twitter con cada <em>“check in</em>” (la acción de registrar su ingreso en un lugar en la aplicación), comentario o recomendación que haga de forma automática.</p>
<p>Más útil aún, si se encuentra en un centro comercial o una calle con muchas tiendas, se potencian las posibilidades de la geoubicación. Así al ingresar y hacer <em>check-in</em> en la tienda de <strong>Nike </strong>no sólo su red de amigos sabrá donde está ubicado geográficamente (y a la vez usted donde ellos están ubicados), sino que la aplicación puede recomendarle un increíble descuento, dos tiendas más arriba, en <strong>Adidas</strong>, por el feedback de algún integrante de su red de contactos que estuvo allí antes. </p>

<p>Esto, como comentan algunos bloggers, no es nuevo en la web 2.0. y más bien resulta la tendencia lógica en un mundo de teléfonos y redes sociales móviles, el llamado “<em>locative social media</em>”. <strong>Lo que hace a Foursquare innovador es que incorpora un elemento lúdico, de competencia, en donde la actividad del usuario acumula puntos</strong>, que más tarde pueden ser canjeados por insignias o “badges” con beneficios en el mundo real. Y allí está la adicción para garantizar un torrente continuo de contenido.</p>
<p>Así, el asistente asiduo de, por ejemplo, el <strong>Starbucks</strong>, acumula puntos por cada vez que hace “check-in”, por llevar amigos que también hacen “check-in”, por dejar comentarios y hacer recomendaciones. Ello puede ganarle el título de “Embajador”del citado Starbucks, que recibirá descuentos y promociones especiales en su próximo <strong>Frapuccino</strong>. Repentinamente el mundo de los <strong>Sims de Will Wright</strong> se hizo real. Y como a los asiduos, Foursquare también premia a los exploradores y aventureros urbanos que gozan encontrando cada nuevo “warike”, lo que la hace quizá una aplicación ideal para grandes ciudades con mucha actividad y diversidad como Nueva York, Tokio, Barcelona.</p>
<p>A diferencia de Twitter, el giro de negocio es más claro. ¿Qué mejor para un establecimiento comercial que tener mapeados a sus fanáticos y premiar su preferencia? Y por otro lado, muy interesante también tener acceso a un feedback interminable sobre cómo les está yendo en su atención al cliente, información que puede convertirse en estadísticas que permitan tomar decisiones.</p>

<div>Eso si, como suele ocurrir en estos casos, se trata de un valor medio, según un <a href="http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/global/led-by-facebook-twitter-global-time-spent-on-social-media-sites-up-82-year-over-year/" target="_blank">estudio</a> elaborado por la consultora Nielsen que analizó el comportamiento de los usuarios en diversas plataformas como Facebook y Twitter en diciembre de 2009.</div>
<div>La cifra, aunque pueda parecer baja, supone un incremento del 82% respecto al mismo período del año pasado, cuando los usuarios gastábamos poco más de tres horas, lo cual demuestra el auge de estos servicios.</div>
<div>De hecho, y según este mismo informe, a nivel mundial las redes sociales y los blogs absorven la mayor parte del tiempo de las personas que nos conectamos a internet, seguido por los juegos en línea y la mensajería instantánea.</div>
<div>Facebook fue la reina de las redes con cerca de 207 millones millones de visitantes únicos durante el pasado mes de diciembre y una cuota de mercado del 67% entre los usuarios de este tipo de servicios. Pero una cosa es la dimensión y otra el crecimiento.</div>
<div>En Estados Unidos la revolución se llama Twitter. El sitio de microblogging multiplicó por cinco su cantidad de visitantes en sólo un año, pasando de cerca de 3 millones de usuarios únicos a más de 18.</div>

<div>Al realizar un análisis de la audiencia que tienen los medios sociales por países y el tiempo que dedican los usuarios a ella, el informe refleja resultados bien diversos. Los australianos son los que permanecen más tiempo conectados, cerca de 7 horas, por delante de estadounidenses e ingleses.</div>
<div>En cuanto a la audiencia, Estados Unidos, Japón y Brasil encabezan las primeras posiciones. Tal y cómo ya se preguntan algunos, si el día sólo tiene 24 horas y cada vez más son para blogs y redes sociales, ¿quién está perdiendo audiencia?</div>

<p>Si eres uno de los 350 millones de usuarios de Facebook, eres twittero, tienes Myspace y estás metido en cualquier nuevo recoveco que sale en Internet, entonces tienes una vida 2.0, algo así como una segunda versión de ti mismo que vive conectado.</p>
<p>Pero cuando alimentar tus perfiles toma tanto tiempo de tu vida y tienes como contactos a tanta gente que ni siquiera conoces, es probable que llegue el punto en el que digas: ¡No más! ¡Quiero desaparecer! Y aunque todas las redes sociales y aplicaciones te dan la opción de eliminar tu perfil, aun después de hacerlo la información que has suministrado queda almacenada en los servidores.</p>
<p>Por ejemplo, si desactivas tu perfil de Facebook lo que sucede es que te vuelves invisible para quienes eran tus amigos y no apareces en los resultados de búsqueda. Si un día decides volver, simplemente ingresas tu nombre de usuario y contraseña y será como si nunca te hubieras ido. Tendrás los mismos contactos y tu información personal estará intacta, sólo que habrás estado inactivo por un tiempo.</p>

<p>Antes de tomar el paso definitivo, hay que estar muy seguro, porque tal como pasa en la vida real, no hay vuelta atrás: las versiones virtuales de ti no tienen la posibilidad de resucitar.
